Two of the most successful IPL franchises will go head to head in what is expected to be a ‘Clash of the Titans.’ The Chennai Super Kings, making a comeback after two years and the defending champions Mumbai looking to kickstart their campaign with a win against their arch-rivals headline the start of season 11 that begins tomorrow – 7th April 2018.
Two more high calibre games this weekend as Delhi take on Punjab and Kolkata square off against Bengaluru.
So what to expect?
Mumbai vs Chennai, Saturday 7th April 08.00pm
After serving a two-year ban, the Men in Yellow are expected to announce their arrival in style. On the other hand, Mumbai at the Wankhede have remained unassailable.
Super 8 pick: Evin Lewis, Ishan Kishan, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Dwayne Bravo, Krunal Pandya, Pat Cummins, Imran Tahir, Jasprit Bumrah
Delhi vs Punjab, Sunday 8th April 04.00pm
The second league match of the weekend will see Kings XI Punjab take on Delhi Daredevils. Apart from RCB, KXIP and DD are the only two other teams to not have won the IPL even once. Punjab will be captained by off-spinner Ravi Ashwin, while Delhi see the return of local boy Gautam Gambhir.
Super 8 pick: Aaron Finch, Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, Glenn Maxwell, Colin Munro, Kagiso Rabada, Gautam Gambhir, Ravi Ashwin
Kolkata vs Bengaluru, Sunday 8th April 08.00pm
Simon Katich, Kolkata batting coach, termed the Virat Kohli-led Bangalore team as the favourites in the opening encounter between the two sides on Sunday.
The former Australian left-handed batsman feels that RCB are one of the title contenders.
Bengaluru have the deadly combination of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, the two most feared batsmen in T20 and their partnership of 229 runs is in the record books. They also have the best all-rounders with Moeen Ali, Colin de Grandhomme, Corey Anderson and Chris Woakes. These players can hit the ball hard and can take wickets.
On the other hand, Kolkata no longer have the services of Gautam Gambhir as he has gone back to Delhi. But that should not upset them as the inspirational Dinesh Karthik will be leading the side. However, Kolkata have a number of inexperienced Indian players that the team depends on. The likes of Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi.
Super 8 pick: Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Virat Kohli, Chris Woakes, AB de Villiers, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar
