[EPL] The Summer Transfer Window Closes In One Month, How Is Your Team Doing?

Though the 2019-20 Premier League season isn’t due to start for a while, the summer transfers have been coming thick and fast. The 2019 transfer window opened on 16th May and will close at 09:30pm IST on 8th August. Players without a club may join at any time, clubs may sign players on loan dependent on their league’s regulations, and clubs may sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan if they have no registered senior goalkeeper available. The Premier League and Championship are united in their transfer window dates and times, but not every league in Europe has followed suit.

Spain’s window opened on July 1st and runs until September 2nd while Italy has a shorter span – running from July 2nd until August 23rd. France runs from June 16th until September 2nd and Germany July 1st to September 2nd.

Eden Hazard has already completed a big-money move from Chelsea to Real Madrid , while Liverpool have released Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno following their Champions League victory in June.

Clubs such as Manchester United, Man City and Arsenal have been conducting brisk business before the start of the season while newly-promoted clubs Sheffield United, Norwich and Aston Villa continue to beef up their squads ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Teams in LaLiga Santander have been the biggest spenders so far, with their clubs splashing 681 million euros, 200 million euros more than those of Serie A in second. The most surprising stat is that the Premier League only sits third, with their window closing earlier than the rest on August 8.In terms of clubs, it’s Real Madrid who have spent the most as they’ve brought Rodrygo Goes, Eder Militao, Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic and Ferland Mendy in for 303 million euros, ahead of Bayern Munich on 118 million euros and Barcelona on 113 million euros.

Serie A’s 71 signings is top of the charts this summer, followed by LaLiga Santander’s 61 and the Bundesliga’s 59. The Premier League is further behind on 33, as is Ligue 1’s 32.

Unsurprisingly the most expensive signing is Eden Hazard at Madrid after Los Blancos paid 100 million euros and 30 million euros in variables for the Belgian, ahead of Lucas Hernandez’s 80 million euro move to Bayern Munich from Atletico Madrid. Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong completes the podium with his 75 million euro price tag.Hazard tops Spain’s list too, obviously, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the most expensive Premier League move and Kostas Manolas is the leader in Italy. Lucas Hernandez is top in Germany whereas Pablo Sarabia is the most expensive signing in France.

Football’s silly season has well and truly hit top gear and with every passing transfer window, prices seem to rise and rise – at least as far as Premier League clubs are concerned. The fact that Arsenal’s £40m offer for Wilfried Zaha is now deemed laughable shows the state of the market.

Stay tuned for updates…
